Lesson 1

Give the words or word combinations defined as the following:

1) lighting, colours etc are less bright than usual; 2) a person that is unusually quiet and possibly unhappy; 3) to stop opposition to a government.

 

Exercise 2.

Translate the following sentences into Russian paying attention to the words and word combinations in italics:

Translate the following sentences into English using the active vocabulary:

a good feature of something: advantage, the good thing about something,  benefit, merit, a plus, the beauty of;

money that you receive regularly: income, pension, Social Security, benefit, wel- fare, allowance, pocket money.
